This is a project I’ve made for RENAULT DESIGN ACADEMY RUSSIA and my master’s degree diploma project as well. The objective has been to design a robotic vehicle for russian future autonomous mobility. I’ve decided to make a garbage collection LCV, because the ecology problem is very actual today, and it is also a good challenge to make something unusual. The process garbage collection of may not be so boring as people think 🙂 [The project became finalist, and was shown on MIAS 2018]
I’m only responsible for design of the garbage collection LCV. Renders and video were also made by me. The designs of garbage boxes and operator’s car were made by my teammates.
The concept of robotic LCV Renault CLAIR is designed for separate garbage collection in suburbs and countryside areas. The vehicle is fully autonomous and works with operator’s car.
CLAIR LCV’s shape was inspired by morphology of Renault retro trucks and vans, in combination with modern trends of the brand’s DNA.
CLAIR LCV in garbage collection mode has a special modular container with doors on its front and back which has two floors and takes 40 robotic garbage boxes. All garbage boxes are fixed to the floors by guide rails to prevent their falling in time of transportation.
To keep the inside space clean the garbage container has bactericidal lights attached to the walls. Container is made of light composite materials and has dirt repellent coating.
CLAIR LCV has unusual construction, that consists of two independent driving modules connected from above with cross arcuate frame elements instead of base frame. As result vehicle is able to take the cargo from the ground on its own by using adjustable suspension.
Two driving modules take the cargo and thereby closes the frame, making overall construction stiffer. Each of them has two turning airless wheels with built-in electric motors and a battery between them. Modules also have sensors for autonomous driving.
The CLAIR LCV’s roof is made using Transparent OLED technology and has flat light bars mounted on top of it as well as a solar panel.
