Boston IVF at The Women’s Hospital – Let’s talk about, Infertility

Infertility, unfortunately, it’s not uncommon.

Around fifteen percent of couples will struggle with difficulties getting pregnant, and the cause of infertility does not discriminate between genders. So forty percent of the time it’s in the female, forty percent of the time it’s in the male. Sometimes there’s overlap. When I meet with people, the first thing that I like to do is, you know, educate them about the diagnosis, but then work through like what the evaluation steps are.

On the male side of things, it’s very simple. You know, we’d have them do a semen analysis. That test is normal. There usually aren’t a lot of other tests that you would need to do.

On the female side of things, there’s more testing that would need to be done, you know, monitoring for ovulation, looking for anatomic causes, of infertility. You gear the evaluation based upon the patient’s history, symptoms. It’s not always the same thing for everybody.
