What Baldness and Cancer Might Have in Common

Losing your hair can still feel like a really big deal, and the treatment options we have are limited and costly. But new research could lead to breakthroughs in how we understand how cells grow and divide… and that means a cure for /baldness/ could help us study /cancer/.

Scientists Finally Figured Out Why This River Flows Uphill

In 1869, an explorer found himself in a Utah canyon that, as far as he knew, shouldn’t have existed. The Green River he was traveling down had cut through the Uinta Mountains, and he couldn’t explain why. In 2026, scientists seem to have finally solved the mystery: a giant blob of rock about 200 kilometers below the Earth’s surface.

Is it Possible to Make Hypersonic sound? Ultrasonic Sound Lasers and Lenses

Get your Action Lab Box Now! https://www.theactionlab.com/

In this video I show how to make a sound lens with a balloon filled with CO2 due to sound refraction. Then I talk about the possibility of creating sound lasers with ultrasonic hypersonic sound that uses modulated ultrasound through air. The air demodulates the ultrasonic signal to produce audible sound only in the area where the ultrasound is projected.

Why It’s So Hard to Make Artificial Cork

Humans have sustainably harvested cork from trees for centuries. Its unique cell structure makes it a miracle material, and even though we understand its secret sauce, we still can’t recreate it.

Why People Thought “Aliens” Made These Rocks

Every so often, humans stumble across stones that are so bizarre and out of place that they seem like they were put there by something sentient. Are the Martian blueberries signs of life on Mars? Were the Klerksdorp spheres left by aliens? And what the heck are fairy stones?Let’s look at three of the strangest rock types out there, what we thought they were, and what they really tell us about our planet’s actual geology.

Why We Can’t Find a Legal Limit for Weed

Check out “The Book” here: https://mdsh.io/scishow Use code SCISHOW for 10% off.

When it comes to driving, you’re probably familiar with the idea of a legal limit. But while we have a legal limit for alcohol, we can’t agree on one for cannabis. And because of the way cannabis affects your body, it’s possible we never will.

The Weirdest New Battery is… Rust

This video was sponsored by Breakthrough Energy.

A reliable grid powered by green energy is going to need batteries, too. Not just electric cars—think solar power on a cloudy day. Lucky for us, there’s an old battery showing new promise for long-duration energy storage. And its secret is rust.

One of the Internet’s favorite creatures is the axolotl. With their fluffy pink gills and big eyes, there’s no question these guys are cuties.
