Lehi’s Vision of the Tree of Life | 1 Nephi 8
Lehi’s vision of the tree of life is a powerful parable about enduring to the end.
In 1 Nephi 8, Lehi experiences a vision that unveils the iron rod guiding his family to the tree of life. The iron rod becomes a powerful symbol of God’s word, while the tree of life embodies the boundless love of God.
Lehi’s vision also reveals a crucial truth: only those who steadfastly cling to the word of God will find salvation amidst the enveloping mists of darkness.
In this story, the righteous individuals show resilience as they “press their way forward, continually holding fast to the rod of iron, until they came forth and fell down and partook of the fruit of the tree” (1 Nephi 8:30).
Much like the inspiring characters in this story, we can navigate the challenges of temptation and confusion that surround us. By grasping onto God’s word, heeding the counsel of His prophets, and directing our thoughts toward the Savior, we have the power to press forward and partake of the blessings that await us.
Jacob Teaches About the Atonement | 2 Nephi 6-10
What a marvelous plan God has for us!
We are each part of a divine plan crafted by a loving Creator. God’s plan isn’t just about existence; it’s about growth, redemption, and eternal joy.
Jacob, a prophet from the Book of Mormon, exclaimed, “O how great the plan of our God!” (2 Nephi 9:13) And indeed, it is great beyond measure. This plan encompasses the journey of our spirits from premortality through mortality and into the eternities.
In God’s plan, there’s room for us to learn, to stumble, and to rise again. He provided a way for us to cleanse our souls, to find redemption, and to experience the profound joy of living in accordance with His perfect gospel.

Feast Upon the Words (Jackson’s Story) #bookofmormon
“In 1 Nephi 3:7, it says, ‘I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.’
“Nephi doesn’t say, ‘I will go and think about it’; he says, ‘I will go DO!’ Our acting in faith precedes testimony of a certain thing. The action of doing something in faith will give us a testimony of that thing, and so I challenge you to GO and DO.” —Jackson

Feast Upon the Words (Sarah’s Story) #bookofmormon
“A few years ago, I was involved in a head-on collision with a drunk driver. This accident left me paralyzed from the waist down, and I had to have both of my legs amputated above the knee.
“One of my favorite scriptures in the Book of Mormon is Alma 36:3. This explains that if you put your trust in the Lord, then you will be supported in your trials. I have been through a lot, but I have felt the love of my Savior Jesus Christ because I have put my trust in Him, in His timing, and in His plan, because His plan is perfect for all of us, and we are exactly where He wants us to be, even if we may feel lost.
“I have truly felt supported in everything that I’ve gone through because I’ve put my trust in God, and I know that all of you can too!” —Sarah

Moroni Invites All to Gain a Witness of the Book of Mormon
Even in tumultuous times, we can find hope in Jesus Christ.
Moroni, the last prophet in the Book of Mormon, witnessed the destruction of his nation. While this was a dark time for Moroni, he was reminded that hope and light would come to God’s children in the latter days.
That light and hope comes from Jesus Christ.
As you read the Book of Mormon, you can learn of Jesus Christ and His teachings. You can grow closer to Him, feel of His love for you, and receive answers to your prayers as you ask in faith.
How has Jesus Christ provided hope and light in your life?
Lehi Testifies of the Importance of Scripture | 1 Nephi 5:10–22
Lehi examines the brass plates and confirms that they hold the Jewish scriptures, including the record of Adam and Eve and the writings of all the holy prophets. They also contain the genealogical lineage of Lehi’s family. Lehi prophecies that these records will bless all generations of his descendants.
Based on 1 Nephi 5:10–22:
10 And after they had given thanks unto the God of Israel, my father, Lehi, took the records which were engraven upon the plates of brass, and he did search them from the beginning.
11 And he beheld that they did contain the five books of Moses, which gave an account of the creation of the world, and also of Adam and Eve, who were our first parents;
12 And also a record of the Jews from the beginning, even down to the commencement of the reign of Zedekiah, king of Judah;
13 And also the prophecies of the holy prophets, from the beginning, even down to the commencement of the reign of Zedekiah; and also many prophecies which have been spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah.
14 And it came to pass that my father, Lehi, also found upon the plates of brass a genealogy of his fathers; wherefore he knew that he was a descendant of Joseph; yea, even that Joseph who was the son of Jacob, who was sold into Egypt, and who was preserved by the hand of the Lord, that he might preserve his father, Jacob, and all his household from perishing with famine.
15 And they were also led out of captivity and out of the land of Egypt, by that same God who had preserved them.
16 And thus my father, Lehi, did discover the genealogy of his fathers. And Laban also was a descendant of Joseph, wherefore he and his fathers had kept the records.
17 And now when my father saw all these things, he was filled with the Spirit, and began to prophesy concerning his seed—
18 That these plates of brass should go forth unto all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people who were of his seed.
19 Wherefore, he said that these plates of brass should never perish; neither should they be dimmed any more by time. And he prophesied many things concerning his seed.
20 And it came to pass that thus far I and my father had kept the commandments wherewith the Lord had commanded us.
21 And we had obtained the records which the Lord had commanded us, and searched them and found that they were desirable; yea, even of great worth unto us, insomuch that we could preserve the commandments of the Lord unto our children.
22 Wherefore, it was wisdom in the Lord that we should carry them with us, as we journeyed in the wilderness towards the land of promise.

Lehi Invites His Family to Partake of the Fruit of the Tree | 1 Nephi 8:12–18
Lehi partakes of the fruit of the tree of life. He desires to share the fruit with his family. Sariah, Nephi and Sam come and partake of the fruit, but when Lehi beckons to Laman and Lemuel to come and partake, they refuse.
Based on 1 Nephi 8:12–18:
12 And as I partook of the fruit thereof it filled my soul with exceedingly great joy; wherefore, I began to be desirous that my family should partake of it also; for I knew that it was desirable above all other fruit.
13 And as I cast my eyes round about, that perhaps I might discover my family also, I beheld a river of water; and it ran along, and it was near the tree of which I was partaking the fruit.
14 And I looked to behold from whence it came; and I saw the head thereof a little way off; and at the head thereof I beheld your mother Sariah, and Sam, and Nephi; and they stood as if they knew not whither they should go.
15 And it came to pass that I beckoned unto them; and I also did say unto them with a loud voice that they should come unto me, and partake of the fruit, which was desirable above all other fruit.
16 And it came to pass that they did come unto me and partake of the fruit also.
17 And it came to pass that I was desirous that Laman and Lemuel should come and partake of the fruit also; wherefore, I cast mine eyes towards the head of the river, that perhaps I might see them.
18 And it came to pass that I saw them, but they would not come unto me and partake of the fruit.
