From The Hard Rock Vault – Pete Townshend Guitar

Jeff Nolan, Hard Rock’s resident historian and all-around music nerd, sits down with Kip Elder, one of the best luthiers in the country, to talk about some of the pieces from Hard Rock’s memorabilia collection.

Here, Jeff and Kip show off one of the guitars that Pete Townshend used at Woodstock. Rebuilt after being smashed (multiple times?) by Townshend, the guys get downright nerdy.

From The Hard Rock Vault – Prince Guitar

Jeff Nolan, Hard Rock’s resident historian and all-around music nerd, sits down with Kip Elder, one of the best luthiers in the country, to talk about some of the pieces from Hard Rock’s memorabilia collection.

Today, Jeff and Kip talk about, and geek out over, one of the Prince “Cloud” guitars that are in Hard Rock’s collection. Prince had a plethora of these guitars and Hard Rock owns a few. Definitely one of the most distinct, and recognizable guitars, in the world.

From The Hard Rock Vault – Malcolm Young Guitar

Jeff Nolan, Hard Rock’s resident historian and all-around music nerd, sits down with Kip Elder, one of the best luthiers in the country, to talk about some of the pieces from Hard Rock’s memorabilia collection.

Here, Jeff and Kip show off one of Malcolm Young’s insanely cool guitars, a 1959 Gretsch White Falcon that Malcom used on both the Back In Black Tour and the For Those About To Rock Tour. Jeff and Kip also discuss a little about the process of “rehabbing” older memorabilia. “To fix or not to fix?” is the question the memorabilia department asks all the time.

From The Hard Rock Vault – Marc Bolan Guitar

Jeff Nolan, Hard Rock’s resident historian and all-around music nerd, sits down with Kip Elder, one of the best luthiers in the country, to talk about some of the pieces from Hard Rock’s memorabilia collection.

Here, Jeff and Kip show off Marc Bolan’s (T-Rex) Veleno Original guitar. It’s an incredible guitar for an incredible, and grossly underrated, musician. Legend has it that this guitar, of which there were only about 200 made, was the very first sold by John Veleno.

From The Hard Rock Vault – Tony Iommi Guitar

Jeff Nolan, Hard Rock’s resident historian and all-around music nerd, sits down with Kip Elder, one of the best luthiers in the country, to talk about some of the pieces from Hard Rock’s memorabilia collection.

In this video, they guys show us the “Monkey” SG used by Tony Iommi throughout the ’70s both on record and in concert. It is a truly monumental guitar, one that Iommi used to lay down the base of heavy metal.
