“In 1st grade I pretended to be bad at reading because I was afraid of being separated from the kids I knew during reading time.
“In 4th grade I would intentionally get questions wrong on tests because I was afraid to be the nerdy girl.
“In 7th grade I was too embarrassed to wear my favorite shoes to school because I was afraid the other kids would think they were weird.
“In 9th grade I wouldn’t shoot during lacrosse games because I was afraid I would miss.
“In 11th grade I didn’t take the boy I wanted to the dance because I was afraid my friends wouldn’t think he was cool.
“In college I would walk with my head down and AirPods in because I was afraid of making a fool of myself while making friends.
“I didn’t tell the boy I liked that I liked him because I was afraid he didn’t like me back.
“I didn’t follow through with hanging out with people because I wasn’t sure they actually wanted to or if they were just being polite.
“But what if fear didn’t have to hold me back every day?
“What if there was someone whom I could trust?
“Someone to be ‘my strength and my song’ (2 Nephi 22:2)?” —Grace
