2012 St.Vincent Corporate Challenge Bigger and Better than Ever_Video

St.Vincent Health built a team of 100 associates to compete against many other corporations in 17 athletic events, including distance runs, shorter sprints, a fitness walk, and field activities (called “Good Sport Events”), such as basketball shootout, football throw for accuracy, golf chipping challenge, and soccer shootout, to name a few. Also there was a 6-mile cycling time trial, bowling, cornhole challenge and sand volleyball That means there were many opportunities to demonstrate your athletic talent, meet new St.Vincent associates and team members, and have a great time!

For those associates or team members who weren’t interested in competing athletically, the 2012 ISC Corporate Challenge included a charity portion competition where Team St.Vincent Health received points based on how much was donated to local charities, including Gleaners Food Bank and the Indiana Sports Corporation’s Geared for Health: Sports Equipment for Kids program.

The St. Vincent House Capital Campaign

The St.Vincent Foundation has launched a capital campaign to raise $8 million to fund the development and construction of a new facility, the St.Vincent House, which will be built on the campus of St.Vincent Indianapolis. The St.Vincent House will serve as a home-away-from-home for patient families who live more than 30 miles away from the hospital, especially those facing financial barriers. Patient families with infants who have an extended stay in the NICU, and children receiving long-term care at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St.Vincent will benefit from the St.Vincent House. The house will provide private accommodations for up-to 20 patient families, as well as other amenities such as laundry facilities, kitchens and outside gathering spaces, during extended hospital stays. Unbelievable Hockey Shot | Former Patient Donates Winnings

Richard Marsh, a 73-year-old, former St.Vincent Heart Center of Indiana patient participated in a challenge at an Indiana Ice game. He was asked to hit a 3 inch diameter puck 175 feet into a hole just over 3 inches wide.

“I had people coming down out of the stands saying I’ve been coming here 30 years and nobody’s ever made that shot,” he said.

But as soon as the celebrating began so did the controversy. The insurance company underwriting the contest disqualified Marsh for making the shot from in front of the designated line. He said he never knew he had to be behind it.

In response to outrage from fans, the Indiana Ice will donate an undisclosed amount of money to St.Vincent Heart Center and the American Heart Association anyway.

“We are doing this because it was a close call and a generous gesture by a loyal fan. Indiana Ice thanks our fan base for supporting the team,” the team said.

Marsh said he holds no hard feelings, he’s happy things will work out. His connection to St. Vincent is personal. Four years ago, doctors there saved his life with double bypass surgery. He said he’s just thankful for the chance to give back.
