Nearly four years after the ‘Sister Wives’ star split from Kody Brown following almost 30 years together, Janelle hard launched her new boyfriend, whom she simply referred to as Pete. “Some chapters are meant to unfold quietly before they’re shared,” Janelle posted to Instagram Aug. 18. “I wasn’t looking. I certainly wasn’t expecting you. And somehow, you turned out to be exactly what I didn’t know I needed.” While Janelle teased that the latest, secret chapter has been “pretty wonderful,” she was ready to reveal the news to the world, adding, “Everyone please meet Pete.” Alongside the sweet message, the 57-year-old shared a selfie of herself and Pete embracing while posing together in front of a river. Indeed, Janelle’s hard launch certainly came as a surprise as the TLC star previously admitted she wasn’t looking for love. “I’m not really interested in getting married again or even really dating at this stage,” she shared on the Sibling Revelry podcast in 2025. Hayden Panettiere’s Director Says She Was “Not OK” on Breed Apart Set | E! News

After Hayden Panettiere died Aug. 16, director Griff Furst—who worked with her on A Breed Apart—recalled that the energy in her room on set was “pretty dark.” In an Aug. 17 Instagram video, Furst reflected on working with Panettiere on the 2025 film, saying the movie’s security team told him “something was off” after picking the actress up from the airport. When he went to greet her, Furst recalled that her boyfriend Brian—seemingly referring to her on-and-off boyfriend Brian Hickerson—opened the door. Furst described Panettiere as “incredibly sweet and gracious and excited to work,” but said she was “not OK.” While the director said he would not get into the details of why she seemed off, he added that it was “pretty clear” to him that something was wrong. Still, Furst said Panettiere’s light continued to shine through, remembering the Nashville star as “a force to be reckoned with.” He added, “That was definitely still in there. But there was something else in there, too, that made it a lot harder to reach.” Prior to her death at age 36, Panettiere had spoken candidly about her struggles with addiction and postpartum depression and reflected on her life, career and family in her 2026 memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning. After the Nashville star died Aug. 16 at age 36, South Carolina authorities shared details about her final moments in 911 dispatch calls obtained by People and TMZ. In the audio, the dispatcher directed medics to Panettiere’s Greenville home, with an Emergency Medical Service worker reporting “overdose,” before adding, “CPR in progress.” When officers and EMS personnel responded to a call placed by the actress’ acquaintance, they found an unresponsive woman at approximately 1:51 p.m. local time. “Upon arrival, medical assistance was administered,” officials noted a statement to E! News, “however, the individual, later identified as Hayden Panettiere, was pronounced deceased at the scene.” “The case is under investigation by the Greenville Police Department in conjunction with the Greenville County Coroner’s Office,” the message continued, “The preliminary investigation has not indicated any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances.” Panettiere—mom to daughter Kaya, 11, with ex Wladimir Klitschko—had been open about her yearslong sobriety journey after struggling with alcoholism and an opioid addiction. Nick Reiner Laid in Wait Before Killing Rob & Michele Reiner, DA Says | E! News

In a newly unsealed grand jury indictment, Nick Reiner is alleged to have laid in wait before murdering his parents Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner at the Brentwood, Calif., home on Dec. 14. The indictment, publicly released Aug. 12, alleges the 32-year-old “personally used a deadly or dangerous weapon,” identified as a knife, and includes special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait. Nick pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder after the indictment was unsealed, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman. He also faces a special allegation that he personally used a knife in the killings. If convicted as charged, Nick could face life in state prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty, though prosecutors have not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty. He is due back in court Sept. 15 for a pretrial hearing. E! News has reached out to Nick’s attorney for comment but has not heard back.
