Stroke Symptoms and Treatment Drill: Act FAST

Do you know the signs and symptoms of a stroke or what do you if you or someone you love may be experiencing a stroke? Franciscan Health explains the proper response in this situation. A stroke occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is cut off or drastically reduced. Brain cells begin to die when they are deprived of oxygen and glucose. Permanent brain damage or death is possible if a stroke is not caught early. It is important to know what to do and be able to respond quickly.

Stroke Survivor Gives Back by Volunteering

Sherry Brandenburg woke up not feeling quite right on the morning of July 31, 2017. Little did she know, later that day she would be in critical care and treated for a stroke. When the time came to choose where she’d receive her inpatient rehabilitation care, she knew without hesitation she wanted to come to Franciscan Health. As a patient on the inpatient rehabilitation unit at Franciscan Health Indianapolis, she learned the importance of compassion, hope and care. Sherry wanted to give those things back to other stroke survivors and does so by volunteering on the inpatient rehabilitation unit.

Heart Surgery in the Time of ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery)

In this one-hour presentation, Marc Gerdisch, MD, FACS, FACC, cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon with Cardiac Surgery Associates who chooses to practice at Franciscan Health, discusses how the use of new pain control methods, new sternum securing devices, and nutrition and fitness suggestions prior to surgery can come together to result in shorter hospital stays, less pain and quicker healing for patients undergoing cardiac surgery.
