The Real Reason Leaves Change Color In the Fall

You’ve probably heard that leaves of deciduous trees change color in autumn because they lose their green chlorophyll molecules, allowing the underlying yellow and orange pigments to shine through. However, this doesn’t explain why the leaves change color in the first place.

Making My Own Oxygen With Photosynthesis

Click the blue button to donate now, or go to https://teamtrees.org/

In this video I show you a really neat experiment that lets you actually see photosynthesis happening in front of your eyes. I use spinach leaf disks soaked in baking soda that have had the air sucked out of them, then I shine light on them in order to induce photosynthesis. The leaves then make oxygen which makes them float in water due to the increased buoyancy. This video is part of the #teamtrees collaboration!

*recipe for water solution in video:
-1/8 tsp baking soda to 300 ml of water
-1 drop of liquid soap
